Find and Fix Broken Amazon Affiliate LinksIt's been a while since I've had the opportunity to add another post to my Build a Better Blog Series, and that's mainly due to the complete overhaul my blog has been going through over the last several months.  Today's post is of paramount importance to all bloggers out there in the active pursuit of making money through their site.

Now as you can see from my "Ways to Monetize Your Blog" section, I've tried most anything on the market aimed at monetizing my content, but honestly, haven't had a lot of luck yet.  The one affiliate program that I've done well with though is through Amazon.  Amazon is a great company to work with and earning commissions with them is quick and fairly easy, for they offer so many options to do so.  If you're not already a part of the Amazon Affiliate plan, then I highly recommend you sign up.

Broken Amazon Affiliate LinksWhat I want to show you here is how to find and fix any broken Amazon affiliate links that are probably on your site.  You might think that a plugin like "Broken Link Checker" will do that for you, but because Amazon is smart enough to never serve a true 404 broken link, this plugin won't work.  But if you don't go back and fix these dead links, you're missing out on many years of potential money that could be earned in affiliate sales.

I've tried using a plugin called Azon Stock Checker which promises to hunt those broken affiliate links down for you, but found that this plugin does not work well at all and support is virtually nonexistent.  That led me to discover this completely FREE method of finding those broken links yourself using the tools that Amazon already provides.

Little FashionistaI was shocked when my eldest daughter started showing an interest in fashion at the ripe age of 2. How could she have an opinion about her clothes at such a young age? My oldest is now 4, and still fashion conscious. My youngest is just turning 2, has always been very particular about her shoes. I fear she will be even more particular about her wardrobe!

Keeping up with these little fashionistas can put a strain on my wallet especially when half the items I buy end up not getting worn. Here's how I have learned to save money on my girls' wardrobes.

1. Bring them shopping

Yes, I know. It's not my favorite thing to do either, especially with my girls at the ages they are. However, I find that if they're involved in picking out what they want to wear, they're more likely to actually wear it. CafeMom outlines other reasons it's good to let your kids choose what they wear.

Summer PerfumesAs the summer days warm up, the heat and humidity can impact your everyday beauty routine, including the application and wearing of fragrance. Here are a few tips from custom fragrance development company, Tru Fragrance, on how to smell extra sweet this summer:

The rules for applying fragrance shift in summer months. Apply perfume more delicately but with increased frequency. Sweating allows the body to cool but it does impact fragrance as it gradually evaporates with the sweat, necessitating regular reapplication. Rollerball versions of your favorite scent are great to carry throughout the day to freshen up.

Placement of perfume is key. Spray lightly on pulse points such as wrists, décolleté, behind knees and ears. Do not rub in the fragrance but let it soak in. The optimal time to apply perfume is on clean fresh skin – it’s best to shower, apply lotion and then apply the fragrance. Also, a light spritz in the hair will help scent linger longer.

Household HazardsPregnant women are trying to be healthier.  Many take all the right steps to promote the birth of a healthy baby, including eating right, taking vitamins and eliminating alcohol and nicotine from their lives.

Unfortunately, all those efforts may be for naught if they are still being exposed to unseen chemicals in their daily lives.  Dr. Doris Rapp, an experienced physician and expert on all the hidden household and environmental hazards in your home, wants women to know about the many insidious and dangerous threats to their unborn babies from the first moment they experience any pregnancy symptoms.  The harmful exposures can cause serious harm and damaging birth defects to babies in the womb, and they are right under our noses.

Fireworks SafetyThe Fourth of July is drawing near and barbeque preparations are underway. Fireworks are a traditional part of Independence Day celebrations, but they can also be dangerous. Sadly, children and teens are too often hurt by fireworks. So, before the celebration begins, get your EyeSmart fireworks safety tips from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Of the 9,000 fireworks-related injuries each year, 21 percent are eye injuries and more than half of the victims are young children or teenagers. For example:

  • A 6-year-old child’s eye was severely injured after he lit an M-80 firework that he found in his home. He called 911 (mp3 audio) and underwent an immediate cornea transplant and lens replacement, and required several additional eye surgeries.
  • A 12-year-old boy forgot to unwrap the fuse of a fountain firework, making the fuse too short. It exploded almost immediately and blew up in his face, seriously injuring his eye.
  • After a man lit smoke bombs that created colored smoke, his 4-year-old son leaned in to get a closer look. Tar from the smoke bomb wick shot into the boy’s eye, causing a corneal abrasion.
