Let's face it...our dependency on computers is directly associated to our country's rapidly declining physical fitness. Computers have quickly wedged their way into every facet of our lives. Now, we don't just use them for work anymore, they are also used for socializing, entertaining, informing and communicating in our everyday lives as well.
Necessity is truly the mother of invention though, for SURFSHELF, LLC has found a way to mesh our computers with our workout routine, so that we can now exercise AND surf the net at the same time. This is multitasking at a whole new level and it could definitely help us incorporate exercise back into our lives again. Allow me to introduce the SurfShelf Treadmill Desk and Laptop Holder!
I was very excited to review this product, for now that I've become a stay-at-home mom / mommy blogger, I never seem to have enough hours in the day to exercise anymore and my physique is starting to show it. I spend a lot of time on the computer, writing posts, researching products, checking emails, etc. that it would be wonderful if I could now incorporate the treadmill or stair-climber into my computer time!
The SurfShelf Treadmill Desk and Laptop Holder is fairly easy to assemble, and since it's constructed of the same polycarbonate material used to make bulletproof glass, I'm pretty sure that it's not going to break. I tried using this product at my gym, since I don't currently own a treadmill or elliptical machine. The hardest part of installing the SurfShelf, was just referencing the pictures so you would know how to strap it on the machine you wanted to use.
Once I figured that out, I simply tightened the black strap so that the SurfShelf was secure and tight to the machine. Then, I placed my laptop on the top of the SurfShelf and secured it with the attached black Velcro strap. Then, I started walking! The SurfShelf didn't interfere with any of the buttons or functions of my treadmill and I was able to surf the net rather easily.
If you are planning on using your laptop for checking email, surfing the internet, or any other activity where you will need to use your keyboard often, I would suggest using the treadmill or stationary bike machines. This way, you can slow them down so that you're not bouncing around too much and it will be easier to get your work done.
If you are going to use the SurfShelf on more active machines which have you moving up and down a lot, like the elliptical or the stair-climber, I would suggest using your laptop to watch a movie, view a picture slideshow, etc.
SurfShelf even has a new video and entertainment site built specifically for its owners and you won't need to type or use your mouse while you're there. Simply go to IN-GYM.com and watch online TV, sports highlights, Hollywood entertainment, breaking news and more!
I think this is a terrific product and a must have for anyone who has a piece of workout equipment at their home, gathering dust. Unfortunately, if you go to a gym like I do, then I don't know whether or not I would recommend it. If you don't mind carrying the parts with you and setting it up everyday, and if you usually stay on just one machine, then I would say it's definitely worth purchasing.
If however, you use many different machines while you're there or you don't get free internet access at the gym, then this might not be the product for you. My hat's off to SURFSHELF, LLC though, for finding a great way to multitask ourselves to better health!
Disclosure: I received the SurfShelf Treadmill Desk and Laptop Holder from SURFSHELF, LLC in order to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received. This product review is based on my own personal experiences with this item and is completely honest and objective. |
