Colossal Christmas Countdown:74 Days Until Christmas! |
|
Having a baby in the house means making sure that their every need is met. When Riley was a tiny little baby sleeping in her crib, her father and I always wondered whether she was warm enough or whether she was uncomfortably warm. I remember joking with Michael that I would get him a t-shirt with the words "Is she too hot?" written on it, since that was the question he always seemed to be asking. At night, I worried about more than just Riley's comfort level...I also worried about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) too. We always kept her fan on, tried to keep her room cool, laid her on her back to sleep and removed all blankets and toys from her crib. We also used a sleep positioning pillow to help keep her on her back and breathing easily. Keen Distribution understands how vital room temperature is in reducing the risk of SIDS, and they created a clever thermometer to help both parents and child sleep easier. It's called the Gro-egg and can actually alert parents to the temperature conditions in baby's room with just a glance. Keep reading to find out more! |
The Gro-egg has four different colors it will display based on the temperature range of the baby's room. It will also display the temperature digitally as well, so that you can know at a glance whether or not to adjust the thermostat, add another sleep sack or more clothing to the baby, remove clothing, etc. Here are the temperature ranges and the associated colors displayed by the Gro-egg:
- Blue - under 61 degrees Fahrenheit - TOO COLD
- Yellow - 61 degrees to 67 degrees Fahrenheit - RECOMMENDED
- Orange - 68 degrees to 75 degrees Fahrenheit - WARM
- Red - over 75 degrees Fahrenheit - TOO WARM
I tried plugging up the Gro-egg in Riley's room and found that it was easy to use and I really could see what the temperature was just by peeking in her door. The entire egg changes color and the large digital display makes reading the actual temperature a breeze too. If you forget what the colors mean and are still unsure whether or not your baby is comfortable, there is even a digital happy or sad face to refer to, which will eliminate all doubt.
The Gro-egg's temperature reading seemed very accurate too, since it was only one degree off from both our upstairs and downstairs thermostats. I like being able to peek in Riley's room and instantly know whether or not she is comfortable. The Gro-egg is now a permanent fixture in Riley's room, for with winter approaching, we only turn on our heater a few days out of the season.
Michael and I love sleeping under a mound of blankets and enjoy the energy savings from not having to run our heater at night. Since we want to make sure Riley stays comfortable and doesn't get too cold, we use a small portable heater in her room. The heater only uses "Low, Medium, High" as temperature indicators though, so it will be quite a treat not to have to constantly guess at the temperature in her room and whether or not she is comfortable as she sleeps.
The Gro-egg from Keen Distribution is a quality product which is well-designed and super functional. Finally, there is a quick and easy way to determine the temperature in your baby's room, making it easy for you to create a safe sleeping environment for him or her. Of course, this leads to a dramatic decrease in the risk of SIDS too, which is every parents' nightmare! I think the Gro-egg is an essential item for every nursery and would make a perfect baby shower or Christmas present for anyone with a small child.
