Members Unite is an interesting way to show your child the power of their vote as well as what can be accomplished through collective charity. I recently had the opportunity to experience a premium membership to Members Unite. Keep reading to learn more!
- $25 annual fee plus $5 per month
- Basic membership is completely FREE!
Members Unite is a collaborative network of charitable folks who'd like to make a difference for issues and causes that are special to them. Each month, Members Unite will be donating a substantial amount of money to one cause that receives the most votes from its members. For instance, in the month of March, Members Unite will give $5,000 to help one of the following causes:
Pay It Forward and Spread Smiles- Let’s Reward Teachers with the Things They Need
- Give the Healing Power of Man’s Best Friend to Wounded Vets
- Give Infants a Lease on Life
- Take Education on the Road
- Make Low-Income Houses a Home
- Create an Immortal Digital Wall of Happiness
- Empower At-Risk Women with Fresh Food
- Help Plant 5,000 Trees
What's neat is that each of these suggestions came from the Members Unite members themselves. This is wonderful if you are already involved in a charity that you're quite passionate about or if you have a terrific idea for how to make this world a little better, but no funding to make your dream a reality.
Personally, I thought a few of the ideas for March were a little frivolous and some of the ideas, while great, would only benefit a small number of people. While my daughter is just three years old and unable to help much with the decision-making process as to who we should vote for this month, I could see a really useful dialogue occurring between us in the years ahead. Each week, Riley and I could tune in to Members Unite and utilize the power of our vote to see what charitable cause we could help fund that month.
As for the charity we decided to vote for this month, I did my best to explain the benefit of each to Riley, but once she heard about the idea to plant 5,000 trees, she was sold. My three-year-old kept mentioning a line from her newest favorite Dr. Seuss book, The Lorax, and saying that "Truffula Trees is what everyone needs". Now how could I argue with that? :big grin:
What a terrific way to teach your child the power of every vote as well as the benefit of being helpful and kind to others! I highly recommend joining Members Unite today and making a positive difference to those in need!
