Wouldn't you know it, Hasbro has found a way to take the classic game SIMON and update it for the 21st century, with SIMON Flash. This game includes the standard version of SIMON, but also contains 3 other brand new games too. What's more, SIMON Flash is completely mobile because it's no longer a large circular piece, but has been converted into 4 small electronic cubes. I recently had the chance to try SIMON Flash for myself. Keep reading to learn more!
The classic game of SIMON is updated with "Wonder-Link" technology, giving this 80's hit game a new spin. With four memory-busting games, SIMON Flash is made up of four tiles that players shuffle and swap at SIMON's command. The tiles store neatly in a carrying case for easy travel and game play on the go! Both old and new SIMON fans won't want to put this down!
Game Objective:
Conquer the colors by repeating the patterns of the four colored cubes as they light up for four different styles of game-play.
Game Play:
Players can enjoy four unique games in one:
- SIMON Classic - Successfully repeat the growing sequence of colored lights.
- SIMON Shuffle - A pattern of lights is revealed in a flash but the lights then shuffle and players have to get them back to the original pattern.
- SIMON Lights Off - Line up all the cubes in the correct order to make all the lights turn off. Move quickly though, the game only lasts for 90 seconds.
- SIMON Secret Color - Keep rearranging the cubes until they all light up as the same color.
SIMON Flash was a lot of fun and I really liked the new games which can now be played since the four colors have been transformed into mobile cubes. My favorite game of the four had to be the SIMON Shuffle one because I really liked trying to physically manipulate the cubes to line them up in the right order. Also, while SIMON Flash is recommended for children ages eight years old and up, I think that a few of these games are appropriate for younger children because they are less challenging than others.
The only downside that I've found with this game is that it requires 8 "AAA" batteries. These 8 batteries are included with the game, but just be aware that you'll need several batteries waiting in the wing once these run out. Finally, the scoring system, comprised of cubes flashing multiple times to indicate points won, can be confusing, especially if playing with two players.
If you'd like to relive the fun you had as a kid playing SIMON, or perhaps introduce your children to the newest version of the original, then I think SIMON Flash will be a hit. This portable, action-packed game will have your children putting their memory skills to the ultimate test, while at home and on the road!
