One of the downfalls of the classic version of Monopoly had to be the lack of paper money that it came with. I don't know how many times we ended up making paper money or trying to keep score on another sheet of paper when most of the players had multiple houses and hotels on their properties.
Monopoly has since been updated for the 21st century with the Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition from Hasbro Games. Keep reading to learn more and see whether this modern day Monopoly was a perfect fit for my family or not!
It's all about flash - not cash - in this modern game of Monopoly, where all it takes to build your Monopoly empire is the swipe of a bank card. Like the classic game of Monopoly, traditional properties remain the same, but instead of collecting cash, this game is complete with six different banking cards and an electronic banking unit to easily keep track of everyone's money. Players buy property, pay bills and collect debts from opponents to become the richest player in the game - just like in real life but much more fun!
Game Objective:
Buy properties and collect rent money from fellow players to become the richest player in the game.
Game Play:
Players roll dice to advance their pawns around the game board. If they land on a property not yet owned, they can choose to purchase it. If the property is owned, the player landing on the space must pay rent to the player who owns the property.
Players insert their bank card into the banking unit to collect money, check their balance and pay the banker. The amount being paid or received is then added to, or deducted from, the player's balance.
The game ends when a player goes bankrupt. The richest player at this point - through a combination of cash and property values - wins!
Our family absolutely loved the Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition board game from Hasbro! The electronic bank was a new twist on the old system of using paper money. It took a little getting used to, simply because I've played this game my entire life and wasn't used to thinking in the millions and hundred thousands, which are what the new properties cost.
I liked having the automatic "GO" button on the handheld electronic bank, for when it was time to pay a player for passing "GO", you just pushed the green button and voila! Their card was automatically credited the correct amount of money.
The only downsides of the handheld electronic bank, in my opinion, was that you couldn't count your money right then and there, for the bank had to scan your card to tell you how much money you had. Also, my family used to always put any money we paid in fees, such as Luxury Tax, in the middle of the board and whoever landed on Free Parking was automatically awarded that money. This isn't able to be done with the new electronic banking unit (and was probably illegal anyway).
But playing with the electronic banking handheld unit was much faster than counting out paper money, once you got the hang of it, and of course, you never had to worry about running out of money. I like Monopoly's new revamp and can't wait to play even more rounds of this game with my family.
If you love playing board games or know a family that does, then I highly recommend the new twist on an old classic, Monopoly Electronic Banking Edition! This game offers action-packed fun for the whole family with plenty of cash to go around!
