Losing your child in a crowded place must be one of the most terrifying moments in any parent's life.  Even if your child is only gone for a few seconds, the whole event must be traumatizing.  I know that once when I was about four years old, I slipped away from my mother in the mall because I wanted to go to the toy store and knew where it was.

Thirty years later, my mother still recalls how terrified she was when suddenly she saw I was no longer standing right next to her.  I also still remember how hard she was crying when she showed up frantic at the toy store with a policeman.  My Precious Kid is a really unique website which has the very important goal of helping you keep your children safe, both at home and out in public.

They have a wide variety of wonderful products designed to make sure these traumatic events never happen to your family.  I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review the Child Locator with ALERT feature, which helps you notice the minute your child wanders off an unsafe distance and then locate them immediately.  Keep reading to find out how this device works!

The Child Locator with ALERT feature is a really nifty device which consists of two parts:  a cute teddy bear with a flashing tummy for the child and a handy keychain for the parent.  The teddy bear has an opening on the back of it, which makes it very easy to slide through your child's shoelaces, and it also comes with a Velcro wristband so that it can be physically strapped to your child.

You could also toss it in a small backpack they were wearing to make sure the teddy bear stayed on them that way.  I found that Riley didn't want to keep the wristband on for very long and would probably use either the backpack method or attach the bear to her shoe to make sure that it didn't come off.

Next, simply turn the parent keychain on and watch the little green light begin to flash.  At this point, you should turn the teddy bear on and notice that the red light on its tummy will also flash.  These two devices will now try and connect to each other.  Once they do, you will see a rapidly flashing light on the keychain and hear three loud chirps to let you know that the alarm is armed.

The teddy bear will also start flashing regularly and once these steps have been completed, the bear is ready to be strapped to your child.  Watch how the Child Locator worked with Riley and I once the system was armed.

The fact that you can push a button and immediately find the location of your child with the Child Locator is a lifesaver!  Now, if your child is merely hiding from you in a store or if something more serious has happened, your child will emit a loud alarm sound so that you can find them and other people will know something is wrong.

Also, as soon as your child wanders 20-30 feet away from you, there will be a loud chirping on your keychain so that you are alerted before its too late.  I think that this is an essential device in keeping your child safe while in public and I highly recommend it!  I know that from here on out, this little blue bear will be Riley's new best friend every time we leave the house!
