Whether you're braving the crowds for the first time or consider yourself a Black Friday shopping veteran, consider these 10 last-minute tasks to prep you for the biggest shopping day(s) of the year.

1. Research circulars and map out a route. Check your inbox, mailbox and the Internet for updates on store circulars and Black Friday deals. Map out your route based on the deals you want, and remember your local mall is a great resource for discounts within walking distance of one another.

2. Make a list and stick to it. You'll be tempted to deviate from your holiday gift list during the Black Friday madness, and that's exactly what retailers are hoping for. One thing I love about my family is that we are all a pretty wacky and fun-loving bunch.  If one of us comes up with a zany idea, it doesn't take much persuading for everyone to follow along. Fun is the name of the game and taking yourself too seriously always squashes that.

So when I decided to take family pictures this year dressed up in our Halloween costumes and then make photo Christmas cards using them, my clan was all aboard!

Maintaining a beautiful backyard is so rewarding, for every time you step outdoors, you're greeted with a gorgeous scene of plants and flowers.  During the winter though, when the temperatures drop below freezing and the snow begins to fall, maintaining those outdoor plants becomes a bit more difficult.

The first step in creating a beautiful winterized garden is to obviously plant  flowers and other greenery that works well with your particular climate.  Here in Texas, I am lucky enough to have a winter climate which is still fruitful for a wide variety of flowers and plants.  But I also keep some of my more delicate plants in potted containers atop decorative plant stands so that when the weather turns nasty, I can quickly and easily bring those plants indoors.
