Smart Mom's Toy Box

Source: iToy Boxes :credits-caption:

Parenting is all about compromises. Your daughter wants candy for breakfast, so you settle on toaster waffles with only one layer of blue frosting. Your son doesn't want to clean his room, so you agree to a viable path to the hamper if you promise not to look under his bed.

Christmas is no exception to the rule of compromise. Your kids want fun toys, but you don’t want to blow your entire budget on junk that’ll either rot their brains or fall apart before the wrapping paper is taking over your living room floor.  Luckily, there are plenty of great toys for little ones that help develop complex learning skills, like memory, logic & reasoning, processing speed, attention, and auditory and visual processing. Best of all, these brain training games can help strengthen the cognitive skills needed to make learning easier – and they're all under $15!

Just skim through the list and look for skill sets based on your child’s age and abilities.  Do you have a seven-year-old with ADHD?  Look for toys that strengthen selective, divided and sustained attention.  Teaching your kindergartner to read?  Select toys that strengthen phonemic awareness (letter sounds) through rhyming, segmenting and sound blending.

GalleryDirect.com Buying our first home was definitely one of the highlights of my life and over six years later, it's still just as fun, for now I'm enjoying the process of decorating it, room by room!  Our home has two-stories along with a very open floor plan.

GalleryDirect.com Blog Ambassador When you walk in through the front door, you can immediately see the hallway upstairs, which to this point was completely bare.  I've been tolerating this empty space for years, but finally decided that before another holiday season rolls around, I would do something about it.

My recent quest for quality artwork led me to discover GalleryDirect.com, a fine art publisher who believes in the motto "Fine Art for Everyone!"

I reviewed the following framed wall art from Gallery Direct:

Intrepid Home by Brett Pfister (PF109A) - Size Large (40" x 30") - Framed Canvas with a 3.5" Natural Very Dark Brown with Pewter Lip Frame (F0106), which retails for $447.00, but is currently on sale for $246.00.
Take 60% OFF Photo Uploads and 45% OFF All Artwork with FREE SHIPPING and FREE RETURNS ~ Sale ends Thursday (12/20)

Shedd's Spread Country CrockDuring the holidays, unhealthy (yet delicious) food choices abound!  From the ooey, gooey desserts to the fresh baked breads and decadent side dishes, the pounds seem to pile on with each passing minute.  Although a healthy diet always consists of a bounty of vegetables, there are so many other tasty options available during the holidays, that our veggie dishes typically take a back seat.

This year, let Country Crock help you have a healthy holiday with plenty of fresh vegetable side dish ideas to please your family's palette.

Capturing CoutureRecently, I was a lucky girl because I won a sweepstakes where the prize was a brand new Canon DSLR camera!  I've always wanted a high-quality camera like this and can already tell a huge difference in the quality of my photos.

My new passion for photography has led me to learn much more about lenses, flashes and other camera accessories.  That's how I discovered Capturing Couture.  This online boutique carries a host of stylish camera accessories which make you look good, even if you're like me and your camera skills still leave something to be desired.  They were generous enough to allow me to review a premium camera strap of my choice.  Keep reading to learn more!

I reviewed the Serenity Sky 2" Camera Strap from Capturing Couture, which retails for $49.00.
