Even though I may technically be Mrs. Cleaver, I admit that I could use some help at times in the kitchen!  For instance, I was heartbroken last year when I tried to make Riley's birthday cake, her smash cake and the cupcakes for her one-year birthday party and had to break down and buy a store-bought cake instead.

Although the cake I made tasted delicious, the decorating job I did on it was atrocious!  I didn't want all of the precious pictures of that day to have this large mutant monstrosity in the background, so I had to buy a cake that didn't taste as good, just because it looked way better.

Thankfully, the folks at Kuhn Rikon Switzerland have invented a nifty little gadget which makes decorating cookies, cakes and cupcakes foolproof!  Let me introduce you to the Frosting Deco Pen!

The Kuhn Rikon Frosting Deco Pen was definitely made for moms like me who love to bake, but don't necessarily want to do it all from scratch.  I like using store bought cake mixes and frosting and will occasionally add food coloring to the frosting to make my own custom colors.  The Frosting Deco Pen is geared to work with Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker and Pillsbury frosting...RIGHT FROM THE CONTAINER!  I think I may have died and gone to heaven!

This frosting pen actually comes with three different cartridges which will load directly from any of the three major frosting companies I listed above.  Simply attach the frosting cartridge to the filler plate and insert it into the container of frosting.  Then push down on the cartridge and it automatically begins to fill with icing with absolutely no mess!

At this point, you can even use the handy color mixing tool to create your own custom color of frosting right inside the frosting cartridge.  Just add a few drops of food coloring and stir the mixing tool around.  With three separate cartridges included with the Frosting Deco Pen, you could easily create three different colors at once and not have to stop once you start decorating!

Next, select one of the six decorating tips included with the frosting pen:

• #1 Round
• #2 Ribbon
• #3 Star
• #4 Basket Weave
• #5 Leaf
• #6 Filler

Then select the desired speed (either fast or slow) and push down all the way on the yellow lever.  The battery-powered pen will automatically start dispensing your frosting in a consistent manner.  Hold the Frosting Deco Pen just like an ordinary pen and start decorating!  Wondering how to stop?  Simply release the yellow lever halfway and the icing will actually reverse and start backing up into the pen, so that you have a flawless professional look.  With the #6 Filler tip, you can even fill cupcakes or muffins with jelly or pudding too!  YUM!

It took a little practice for me to get the hang of, but in the end, I was able to decorate my cupcakes pretty well.  It was really easy, for I just made little dobs all over with the Frosting Deco Pen and for me, it was a real work of art!  My daughter's second birthday party will be coming up in October, and now with the Kuhn Rikon Frosting Deco Pen, I think I will actually try tackling making her birthday cake again. This time, I have a feeling I will have remarkably different results!
